Located in the northeastern part of Mindanao and facing Iligan Bay, 795 kilometers southeast of Metro Manila. It is located outside the typhoon belt, relatively earthquake free zone. Its climate is characterized by short, low sun dry season for about one to three months. Rainfall is evenly distributed throughout the year. Economy in Iligan is export-driven. There are nine exporting firms in Mindanao, seven are found in Iligan City. Exported commodities include coconut oil, copra solvent extract, pellets, tapioca chips, etc.
There are 3 hydro-based power plants which have a generating capacity of approximately 66% of the total power supply of the Mindanao grid. It also has 2 diesel power plants, 3 big rivers, and 9 developed springs supplying potable water to the the city.
The city boasts of accredited hotels and inns, dining and entertainment saloons, sports complex, forest park, golf course, and other amenities. |
